About Me

Hey there! Glad you stopped by. I’m Christie – wife, mom, teacher, and homemaker. My years have taken me through all kinds of experiences, but today you can find me planning homeschool lessons for my four children, researching curriculum over and over, hunting for new recipes, and reading (my current favorites are 19th century British literature and anything about dystopian societies. Quite the mix, I know).

Some other details about me – I have a Bachelor’s Degree in American Politics from the United States Military Academy and served 5 years in the United States Army. I also have a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and taught in Jr./Sr. High Schools for 3 years before transitioning to teach in my own home.

I have been homeschooling for six years, and I write to share my experiences, lessons learned, and passion. When it comes to teaching our kids, we all wonder if we’re getting it right. Are they in the right school? Should I be more involved? Can I really teach them myself? What about algebra?

I believe that parents have so much to teach their kids, and you know best what they need. You know what makes them tick. You know the values you want them to internalize. You know their hopes and dreams and you can help them find the right path to realize them. I want to encourage you in your journey to move away from what we grew up knowing as schooling, and move toward what we really want – learning.

What’s the difference, you say? I’d say – quite a lot. Schooling involves many hours of sifting through textbooks. Learning involves basking in a few quality pieces of literature to get deep into a subject. Schooling touches lightly on many topics. Learning makes meaningful discoveries in a few areas that are important to you. Schooling is a one-size-fits-all solution to impart knowledge on tomorrow’s workforce. Learning is a customized method of educating children that relishes in igniting passion and inspiring personal growth. As a home educator, you don’t have to settle for school at home. You can create an atmosphere for learning at home that will take you and your children on a journey of excitement, joy, and growth that will last a lifetime.

Let’s get started – learning, not schooling.
